I’ve got some good news and some bad news when it comes to healthy eating. The good news is… the rules have finally changed. The bad news is, you need to change how you go about eating healthy.
But things aren’t all bad. If you follow the plan I lay out for you here it will allow your healthy eating plan to flourish. If you don’t then you will be stuck living a less than healthy lifestyle with yesterday’s information. And that is bad news!
Here Are The New Healthy Eating Rule Changes
Forget About Dieting – STOP trying to diet. What you need to do is change the diet you’re already on. Now some diets will work for you in the short term but what you are looking for is healthy eating over the long haul. That way you will be able to live with a diet that’s right for you and not athe other way around. Did you know that almost two thirds of people who lost between 5-10% of their body weight put that weight back on and more within two years. Yo-yo dieting doesn’t work!
Learn How To Grocery Shop The Healthy Eating Way
The majority of consumers have no idea how to shop for food. They haven’t learned how stores are laid out nor do they understand the science stores use to manipulate them to buy the unhealthiest foods. Your goal should be to shop the periphery of the store. This means to shop around the outer edges of the store where the healthy foods are such as fruits, vegetables, meats, fish and dairy. You know, the one ingredient foods. The middle of the stores contain the processed and comfort foods that are unhealthy and you can definitely live without.
Stop Counting Calories And Start Healthy Eating Habits
The problem with counting calories is you are fixated on the calories and not the food you are eating. You see, all calories are not the same. Let me give you an example:
Are 500 calories of protein the same as 500 calories of carbs? I don’t think so. You need to focus on your overall health by making healthy eating choices. Too many times people make drastic changes to their diets by limiting the calories they take in but don’t see that they are also limiting the nutrients they are getting . When you restrict the calories you set yourself up for binge eating and put a strain on your body.
Make Meat An Accent And Not The Highlight Of Your Healthy Eating Meal Meal
Look, we all love to eat meat but you can still eat it and be healthy. Just make it part of the meal and not the center of it. You can substitute beans which are loaded with antioxidants, fiber and protein and still eat healthy as well as filling up in this type of healthy eating diet. They are one of the cheapest food staples in the store. If you have to eat meat, try eating grass-fed beef and humane-raised chickens, pork and lamb. They have more nutients (omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin E and beta carotene to name a few) and less fat than grain-fed animals without all the antibiotics and hormones associated with grain-fed animals. And, to go even further, instead of a 10 ounce steak, 3-4 ounces are a better choice and you can add in more greens and with a smaller portion of rice, potatoes or pasta. That brings me to my next point…
Diversify Your Healthy Eating Greens
That’s right! We all need to add more greens to our diet. That means eating more types of greens which should include kale, swiss chard, coolard greens, and other green leafy vegetables. The more colorful the vegetable, the healthier it is for you. It is also wise to change your meat-to-greens ratio of the foods you eat. Instead of it being 60-70% meat , reverse it. Make it 60-70% vegetables. You will see a big difference in how you feel and how you look in your healthy eating diet.
The rules have changed concerning healthy eating and it’s up to you to keep up or you will suffer the consequences.
