Do you have a heart healthy diet? It has been reported by doctors and dietitians alike that only 25% of Americans actually eat 5 or more servings of fruits and vegetable per day. This is real shame especially when the recommended daily serving is 9 per day.
We, as humans, are literally killing ourselves with the wrong types of heart healthy diets. There are so many fad diets being pushed on society that it’s ingrained into our brains to go on a diet to look perfect. We just about starve ourselves to look our best but are we really eating a heart healthy diet?
With the new year having arrived, it is time we all make eating healthy our resolution for the year… and stick with it! This means opening our minds up to new ideas, new ways to do things… and spicing up our lives!

For those of you who have high blood pressure, high cholesterol (me included), and other physical ailments, it’s time to understand what you put in your body now is going to affect what you look like and how you feel tomorrow!
A recently completed study in Circulation magazine states that red meat raises women’s heart risk. This should be an eye opener for all you women out there. This study tracked 85,000 women over 26 years and found that the more red meat they ate, they higher their risk was for heart disease.
Substituting Items In Your Heart Healthy Diet
If women would just substitute items in their heart healthy diet such as nuts, black beans, tofu, fish and poultry and cut down on their beef intake, they would slash their risk of heart disease by 33%. Now that’s a heart healthy diet!
If you want to live longer – you have to eat healthy. There is nothing more to it than that. We’ve all heard and seen the success stories of people losing wieght on the show ” The Biggest Loser” but for every winner that loses weight and keeps it off, many, many more are dying of heart attacks and strokes. Don’t follow the fads. Do what’s right for your heart and your heart healthy diet will do right by you.
