Things have changes drastically since we were young. Food itself, doesn’t even resemble food from 100 years ago.. The healthy eating advice you received back then was all on your plate. Your parents fed you what they could afford and what was available. Only natural ingredients, usually made from scratch was what you were served and you ate it. There were no fake foods, no chemically modified foods, no man-made preservatives nor were there huge multi-national corporations like there is today. No, life was simpler and so was the healthy eating advice.

In order to live under these difficult times, the healthy eating advice must target the differences between what was and what is going on today and what was considered natural and what is considered natural today. From there we can formulate an eating healthy plan to make sure we are getting the best nutrition possible. Living in this world has become almost pushed us out of control. It’s become a fast-paced race against time to accomplish each day’s task. This is why is has become so hard to eat a balanced diet. Our children are suffering with obesity and our population is overloaded with diabetes, stroke, high cholesterol and heart disease. What we need is some good, strong healthy eating advice. That’s where mom comes in.

We know mom was right when she tried to make us eat right. We fought and fought but in the end she usually won. She only wanted the best for us and did what she could to feed us the best food she could afford. Moms have that innate ability to know what to do in any situation and we applaud her for that. But we also know she would ask for help if she needed it. When it comes to learning about nutrition where can you go for the right healthy eating advice?

Mom always said, “keep it simple stupid” (KISS). That means we have to go back to basics. And going back to basics we will target natural foods. This means fresh fruits and vegetables, real meat, poultry and fish and fresh dairy such as milk and cheese. As food becomes more and more processed, we need a way to combat what these chemicals can do to our bodies.
Here are a few ways we can do this:
- Buy fresh vegetables and fruits and wash thoroughly.
- Try to buy free-range chicken and eggs as well as beef. There is so much more antioxidants, vitamins and nutrients than in hormone fed poultry and meat. (If you knew the disgusting conditions animals have to live under in these large farms you would switch over to free-range animals in a second).
- If you can’t pronounce the ingredients, it’s usually not good for you.
- Spend the money on food which is good for you instead of junk food. It may cost more now but will cost you so much more later (in terms of heart disease, stroke and diabetes).
Mom knew how to feed you and what to buy but it has become much harder to eat healthy. To ensure good health throughout your life stick with good ole’ fashioned healthy eating advice.
