Glutathione – A Powerful Antioxidant

Not getting enough antioxidants in your healthy eating diet?  Well, here’s one that you should be aware of.  It’s called glutathione and it just might be the most important antioxidant of all.  Doctors have found through preliminary studies that it may be able to prevent chronic diseases such as cancer, cardiovascular, and even Alzheimer’s disease in the near future.  It is a powereful regenerator of cells and keeps the body detoxified while protecting cells from the effects of oxidation.

Glutathione – A Free Radicals Worst Nightmare

We’ve all heard of the antioxidants beta-carotene, selenium, and vitamins C and E and how they can reduce the damaging effects of free radicals in the body.  These free radicals can harm the cells and put you at a higher risk for developing cancer and other diseases.

Glutathione has even more benefits than all the other known antioxidants.

Here Are Just A Few Of The Many Glutathione Benefits:

  1. Glutathione is called a donor molecule.  This means it grives up it’s electrons to free radicals so they don’t harm health tissue.
  2. Gives up it’s electrons to the other antioxidants so they become stronger and can work harder and longer at preventing free radicals from taking over the body.
  3. It removes toxins from the body by using sulfur, a key ingredient of glutathione, and nuetralizes toxins before they can enter a person’s bloodstream.

Eat more garlic and onions as well as vegetables such as broccoli, cauliflower, and cabbage.  These foods contain sulfur.  The more sulfur in the food the more glutathione is inside.  It is also advantageous to add more wheat, red meat, beans walnuts, and capsicum to your diet everyday since these will allow glutathione to be absorbed much easier into the body.  You should also up your intake of  fish, turkey, beef, chicken and eggs as well as fruits and vegetables such as asparagus and avocados.   These foods contain amino acids which help produce more glutathione.

Increased levels  have the following advantages.  They are:

  • anti-arthritis
  • anti-anxiety
  • ant-depression
  • anti-obesity
  • ant-fatigue
  • anti-inflammatory
  • ant-glaucoma
  • ant-ulcer
  • ant-viral

And some very measureable benefits.

  • anti-bacterial
  • anti-fungal
  • anti-cataracts
  • anti-blood fat
  • anti-cancer
  • anti-hypogycemia
  • anti-hypertension
  • anti-osteoporosis

Why You Need To Iincrease The Levels Of Glutathione In Your Body

glutathione - eggsIf the levels of glutathione are too low in the body then antioxidants cannot do their job.  That is why it is important to eat a balanced diet to allow these nutrients to do the job they were intended to do.  Studies have shown that higher levels of can inhibit and prevent the replication of many of the pathogens that are toxic to the body.  So if your levels get too low, you are susceptiple to the effects of viruses that may invade the body.

When eating foods containing glutathione, make sure they are either fresh or frozen.  Preservatives and processing depletes the amount  of glutathione in the food.

If you don’t get enough in your diet you can take supplements.  A typical dosage is about 500mg/day.  If you are sick, double the dosage to 1000mg/day.  One final note, always take them in the morning as your body is low on glutathione when you wake up.
