When it comes to getting started on your new year fitness goals, it’s not always easy to achieve what you want. However, if you make sure that you start as you mean to go on you’ll certainly increase the chances of success. Here are a few tips on making sure you get started the right way.

Write Down Your Goals/ Plan of Action

 

Before anything, make sure you’ve got your goals written down. You may have already told someone that your plan was to exercise more, but writing it down will make it more real and help to keep you accountable. You could even start a blog to document your success if you really want something to hold you accountable!

Set A Start Date

 

Next, set a start date and make sure that you start on that day. It probably shouldn’t be the first of January – we all know that all that partying the night before can leave us feeling less than energetic! Instead, start a date when you know you’ll be ready to put everything into it, perhaps a few days later. Choosing an exact date will stop you from putting it off (which we’re all guilty of).

Get Rid Of Temptations

 

The reason why many of us choose to set fitness goals in the new year is because the holidays are full of temptation. Food and drink are both an important part of this time of year, but many of us feel the need to detox afterwards. Now is a good time to remove any temptations you may have left over. This means stop buying snacks and keeping them in your home – forcing you to walk to the store if you ever get a craving – and throwing out or giving away any unhealthy treats left over from the holidays.

Stock Up On Healthy Food

 

The chances are that you’ll still get the urge to snack, so it’s important to stock up on healthy food. Buy plenty of fruits and veg and keep them nearby when you’re working throughout the day and for after your workouts. If you don’t have any unhealthy alternatives then you’ll be forced to eat the healthy stuff instead!

Celebrate Milestones

 

Although you’ve got an overall goal, it’s important to set smaller fitness goals for you to aim for along the way. This may mean exercising for 5 days in a row, drinking more water each day, limiting yourself to one chocolate bar a week, giving up soda and so on. Set yourself one mini goal at a time to keep yourself motivated to succeed.
